In the event of a catastrophe or disaster situation in Texas, it is imperative that you report your claim as quickly as possible by calling your agent, the Waco office, or an 800-disaster line that will be published at the time of the disaster. Please do not delay in reporting your loss.

Texas Farm Bureau Insurance Companies Claims Department will react as quickly as possible to be in the disaster strickened area to handle the claims in a timely manner. We have a catastrophe team in place and they are ready when called to work diligently to handle all claims promptly. This team and additional personnel, if necessary, will assist in the handling and processing of claims. With our disaster trailers, the claims department can set up at any location and begin the process of working losses. This is one of the reasons it is very important that all claims, even the minor damage, be reported quickly so the damages can be assessed so that the proper number of claims personnel can be brought to the location to handle claims.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, and windstorm or hail losses cause damages that range from minor damage to total losses to various property. We want to address those losses of the greatest need first so those insured who have suffered the heaviest damages can be handled first as their first need may be a place to live. At the same time, we will be contacting anyone who has reported damage to inspect the property as quickly as possible.

The 3 main things you can do in a disaster situation are:

  1. Report the claim as quickly as possible and tell us what kind of damage you have suffered.
  2. Protect your property from further damage
    • Arrange to cover holes in roof with tar paper or heavy-duty plastic.
    • Board up broken windows with plywood or heavy-duty plastic.
    • Consider moving your belongings into protected storage if your damage is extensive.
    • Make reasonable & necessary repairs to safeguard the property.
    • Keep accurate records & receipts of your expenses.
  3. If you can't stay in your home because of the structural damages, be sure to leave a forwarding address and telephone number where you can be contacted.
